Incumbent is a professional social worker assigned to the Sevierville Outpatient Clinic (SOPC). The incumbent’s primary focus will be to provide medical social work services to eligible Veterans as a means of assisting them to meet biological, psychological, social, and environmental needs, however this social worker will need to also be able to provide a variety of other generalist social work functions. The Veterans served reside primarily in Sevierville, TN and surrounding counties. Their health care, psychosocial problems and needs are complex and require a high degree of clinical oversight and creative problem solving. Services include making Veterans aware of the resources available to them both at the VA and in their community, clinical treatment, advocacy, and coordination of linkages to other appropriate VA or community service providers/ agencies as needed. This is accomplished in collaboration with the interdisciplinary treatment teams as appropriate.

Qualifications Basic Requirements:
Be a citizen of the United States. Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3g this part. Education.
Have a master’s degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the school of social work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master’s degree in social work. Verification of the degree can be made by going to the CSWE website to verify if that social work degree meets the accreditation standards for a master of social work. Licensure.
Persons hired or reassigned to social worker positions in the GS-185 series in VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master’s degree level. Current state requirements may be found on the OHRM website. English Language Proficiency.
