SUMMARY OF DESCRIPTION OF JOB:
This position is responsible for administration of major contracts (i.e. construction, services, consulting, etc.) and the procurement of materials at the lowest cost consistent with considerations of quality, reliability, and urgency of need. Schedules/coordinates the contract activity to assure procurement policies and procedures are adhered to. Personally undertakes the buying of the most important and critical items.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Purchase direct charge items and administer major construction, services, and materials contracts. Coordinate and schedule deliveries of all industrial gases and chemicals. Negotiates blanket purchase order agreements for all major commodities and/or services. Arrange for the disposal of, or negotiate the sale of, surplus materials and equipment. Recommends uniform standards of specifications for material/service requirements. Processes change orders, notifying vendors of material/service, quantity/specification requirement revisions. Negotiates with vendors on rate adjustments and incorrect materials.
B.S. or B.A. in Business is preferable but other degrees at this level may be considered OR equivalent experience acceptable 8 years of negotiating and material management experience required in lieu of degree.
Experience Requirements beyond educational or equivalent:
Nine to ten years Purchasing and materials management experience -- specifically in capital projects, construction, service type contract administration.
